Statement: Berbera International Airport is open for international trade.

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, His Excellency Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), announced that the Berbera International Airport is open for international trade. During a working visit to the Sahel Region, the President, accompanied by a large delegation, conducted an inspection of the Berbera International Airport today.

The President received a detailed briefing from the Minister of Aviation and Airport Development, Hon. Fuad Ahmed Nuh. The Minister outlined the Ministry’s strategy to transform Berbera Airport into an international hub, serving aircraft traversing global routes overhead. He noted that in the short time he has been in office, numerous aircraft previously reliant on regional airports have utilized Berbera’s services. The Minister also revealed plans to export fish, vegetables, and dried meat from Berbera, alongside initiating cargo flights connecting Addis Ababa and Berbera. Additionally, in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade and Tourism, preparations are underway to launch tourism flights between Addis Ababa and Berbera.
Remarks were also delivered by the Mayor of Berbera, the Governor of the Region, the Minister of Livestock, and the Minister of Interior and National Security, each emphasizing the airport’s significance to Somaliland and the Horn of Africa.

President Abdirahman stated his government prioritizes operationalizing the airports of Berbera. He officially declared Berbera International Airport open for passenger and cargo flights, as well as international commerce. He commended the Minister of Aviation for establishing international connections in a short period, enabling global aircraft to utilize the facility.
