Hundred-strong mob surrounds and ‘threatens’ police as officers arrest Somalian man
A MOB of 100 men surrounded and threatened police in Hamburg as they attempted to arrest a Somalian man.
Hamburg Police said officers were surrounded and reportedly threatened by a crowd of 80 to 100 African men.
Chaos broke out as police arrested an 18-year-old Somalian in St Georg on Wednesday.
The teenager was accused of threatening two workers at a sports betting shop in the German city.
Police said the teenager was banned from the shop when he threatened to cut the employees’ necks.
Police said: “The 18-year-old threatened the two employees to cut their necks and explained this with appropriate gestures.”
Hamburg Police arrested the man.
In a statement, they said: “At the same time, he was always aggressive and complained loudly about the measure.
“Within a very short time 80 - 100 black Africans arrived before the sports betting business.
“Out of this group statements were made against the police officers such as ‘skin off’, ‘p*** off’ and ‘this is not America’.”
Extra forces were sent to the scene in Steintorweg to calm the crowds.
It comes two weeks after police shot a 33-year-old man from Ghana in Hamburg sparking protests in the city with officers accused of racism.
An internal investigation has been launched into the incident, which took place yards away from the sports betting shop.
Police said the officer was acting in self-defence after he was attacked by the 33-year-old, who was reportedly carrying a knife.
