I had a conversation about the war with my father a long time ago but I remember very little. All I know is he lived in Xamar when it broke out and was moving from place to place until his dad took him and his brothers to Saudi. What I do remember is that he told me at one point he got lost from his family and had to travel from Xamar to Kismaayo with 8 other guys.

My mother told me that I was a very chubby toddler, her and my grandma took turns carrying me until they found a ride to safety. It was a rough, she told me one of the trucks carrying us took a different route because of the militias blocking the main roads. The truck ended up flipping upside down and somehow we survived that too alx. This is why we have to show nothing but love and respect to our families, they did everything in their power to give us a second chance in the face of death and uncertainty.

Don’t think my dad was even in the country at the time and my mom lived in a small tuulo called karin in the north. It’s a tuulo now with like a population of maybe 1K, back then though I don’t even think you could consider it a tuulo. It was literally just an extended family of nomads settled there, maybe a couple hundred people at best.
