It is not yet a Somali minority town there is still a thin Somali majority especially if you see the surrounding rural districts.

A good portion of those 'Oromo speakers' are Somali.
How and why did these Somalis adopt Afaan Oromo? Shouldn't they be speaking Somali and Somalizing the new arrivals. Like how Afars in Djibouti speak Somali. This is concerning, a generation or two and they'll claim Oromo

They learned Oromo as a second language to deal with their neighbours. There are also some that were absorbed into Oromo- many of their recent famous Islamic leaders are of recent Somali descent.

The decision to list them as 'Oromo' is political and part of the long term Ethiopian goal to get rid of Somalis from this strategic location and all along the railroad route (yes the Afar-Somali instigated conflict is part of this).

Yeah they're better than us in that regard. Now that I think about it I've never seen Oromos doing FKD amongst themselves. Even in their subreddit :cosbyhmm:

Their Gadaa system is strong they believe in Oromonimo they don't endlessly beat up their own people over the most inane things. Their main divisions are mainly religious (Waaq/Muslim/Pentecostal/Orthodoc) and political (Ethiopianist/Oromo Nationalist).

You can achieve a lot more when your system isn't endlessly dividing until you reach the immediate family!

Somali traders in the northern Kenya had a lot of trade an introduced some modern items to the Boranas in Kenya . There are some British writings complaining about the Somalis trying to coalesce them into allying with the Somalis. The Waaqists Boranas opposed to the secessionist movement in Northern Kenya or uniting with Somali, while some of their Muslims supported the movement.

In Ethiopia, Oromo nationalism seems strong at the minute, but they need to find a balance between using it as a vehicle to become the strongest group in Ethiopia or use it for subversive purposes.

Yes, the Somali sub clan system is unfit for modernity.

Most of these guys are Somali 😂 Gurgura towns and villages surround the city. They can easily invade the city and eat those langaab Oromo and Amhara. Gurgura is king in that region 💯
That’s why somalis are much smaller than they could have been, and why we are so divided.

Because you think a guy speaking oromo is somali just because of muh lineage.

Sigh
If only any horn of african speaking somali was considered somali, and we had the same assimilation policies as oromos. We would probably be a 50 million nation and more united.

Oromo hordes overtook the city. The most spoken language in the city is afaan oromo followed by Amharic and lastly Somali
@Abba Sadacha seems like You've won :mjlol:

Don't fret my brother. My solution to our land disputes is to share the land, call it a special 'som-oromo zone, or 'oro-mali zone', with the two working languages being oromo and somali, shared power, where we rotate the power positions every 4 years, etc.
We love Somalis, [personally I do have a halal thing for xalimos I cannot lie,]we see them as brothers and sisters. In fact, where I live, if you mess with Somalis, then you messing with me. A lot of us speak somali and a lot of us want to learn it too. My dad, for example, spoke 5 languages: afaan oromo, afaan somali, arabic, english and amharic. and my uncles too, they all lived in mogadishu during siad barre's era. :D :)

Yep Oromos are very fluid. They don’t care too much about lineage/ancestry. As long as you practice their culture, speak their language and marry their people you are considered Oromo

I think that is why they had an easier time absorbing Somalis historically than the other way around. I’ve seen many suspiciously Somali looking Oromos

oromos? dont care about ancestry kk leading their lineage back to Adam
