The South has very different racial demographics compared to the North, so this is expected. The South is comprised of mostly German and Italian immigrants that didn't mix.

Brazil mainly received the industrious & hard-working Northern Italians, whereas the USA got the bad hombres from South Italy and Sicily.

Southern Brazil is a paradise compared to the rest of the country.

After a quick search it seems that south Brazil is safe, affluent and more whitish than rest of the country like Argentina. Rest of Brazil are mix of European, African and native population. North & North East of Brazil are hella poor while southernmost regions are prosperous.
