In the year 1398, Mogadishu saw a huge increase in the daanyeer population. They reached such a high number that they started to invade homes and the markets and would steal food. On the last day, they stormed into the palace of the sultan and one of them sat on the throne. You would think looking at this scene that the city was ruled by daanyeers. This story was recounted to al Maqrizi by a visiting Qadi from Lamu.
