The cover in this video is called Sabarta by Mohamed Wardi. He was a very talented musician known across Sudan and even the horn. Here's a link to Sabarta that was performed in Addis Ababa if I remember correctly 1992.




Coming across things like this really remind me of what @Shimbiris used to say on this forum. Wallahi Sudan and the Horn really are a cultural block.

Someone should really study the cultural continuum that clearly existed from Chad down to Northern Kenya. The material culture similarities from bloody Xamar to Bornu is pretty trippy. I've been shouting at the roof-tops about it for a decade. The way they dressed, a lot of the customs... there was some marked regional variation but it really is amazing how even despite religious differences if you walked around the whole Horn, Sudan and Chad, as many gaalo noted, you'd essentially be looking at mere regional variations of what felt like one continuous culture much like a reflection of neighboring Arabia.

North Sudan forms a cultural bloc with Egypt, not with Horn Africans.

Even amongst us Horners we are not a unified cultural bloc, since Ethiopia & Eritrea have their own Habesha cultural bloc.

That's like saying France and Russia are two different continents. The difference in culture between them is such as the Muslim Somali/oromo/afar to the Sudanese.

You know nothing. Sudan has far more cultural similarities Egypt than with Ethiopia & Eritrea etc.

Ngl we need a better name for this region/bloc than the “Horn” and for the macrobian bots on social media to start propagating it, it’ll quickly pick up fire.
