Police in Kansas City, Missouri, say a man was shot and killed in front of his 10-year-old daughter Sunday night in the parking lot of a grocery store.
Police say Elyas bahalweyne, 24, went to the parking lot to sell a handgun. The parking lot is located near near Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals, and was crowded with cars of Royals fans who parked and walked to the stadium for opening night of the baseball season.
The shooting was related to the sale of the gun, PEOPLE confirms.
Despite rumors that the sale was brokered on the website Craigslist, police do not believe Bahalweyne was using Craigslist.
"We think he was using some other type of Internet sales," says Captain Tye Grant of the Kansas City Police Department. "He was proven to be quite the entrepreneur. He had a lot of different things going on and was always buying and selling."
Police say it is possible that Bahalweyne fired back in an attempt to defend himself.
Bahalweyne's daughter witnessed the entire incident from inside the car but was unharmed, police say.
Police are speaking to all witnesses, including Bahalweyne's daughter, police say.
No arrests have been made, and police do not have any official suspects. Police have not released any descriptions of the suspect or his car.
