A thought on the seeming irrationality of slers

Over the past month I have come to understand that the conflict between Puntland and Somaliland is not seen similarly by both sides. A lot of people in Somaliland seem to think that Puntland harbors intentions of destruction or ill will towards Somaliland. I remember watching the video of a lady donating her jewelry saying that she was doing this so that 1988 is not repeated. As someone who is from Puntland I am always surprised to hear this. This idea that Somaliland Proper is in actual danger seems to most people in Puntland crazy.

I though more about this as I kept hearing it more and more often and I think I finally understand why many people in Somaliland think this. I think the reason is that historically almost all military conflict waged against Isaaq has come from their Darood neighbors. Whether they are the Jidwaaq, Ogaden or Harti. The Isaaq are basically territoriality surrounded by clans that are Kablalax Darood, so almost all the time they fight against a outside enemy it is by default against Darood. The Darood due to the fact that they border various clans all have different enemies to hate. The MJ hate Hawiye, the OG hate other OG, Marehan hate D&M, etc... The focused tribal hatred of the Isaaq looks over the top to the average Darood, but it makes sense historically. Geography, where people are located relative to one another, matters. It is essentially a massive persecution complex that has some real basis in history.

Darod literally had to resort to using the full resources of the state to even compete with Isaaq. Today in the former somali republic Isaaq is taking darod land and colonising darod.

Through Somali history Isaaq has taken so much land from darod while darod hasn’t taken an inch of Isaaq land. We even had darod sub clans like harti insulting Ogaden due to the fact they lost so much land to garxajis.

Occupation doesn't mean settling in an empty land that belongs to no one. Daroods were interested in arable land that's why we conquered and settled in fertile lands of the south and expelled OROMO tribes from as far as Galkacyo.

It's mostly useless land or land other clans vacated during droughts. It's a similar situation in Mudug.

On this topic specifically I will say, the irrationality is based on tribal fears as OP said which goes directly against the foundation of SL, it's an irony that hasn't escaped us.
