Have you guys ever considered adopting a Somali kid? I was just watching this video about the Hargeisa Oprhanage center, in a span of 5 years only 18kids were adopted and out of the 18 only 3 were boys.

Inshallah I will adopt a kid in the future. I'm planning on opening an orphanage in the future.

I am considering it in the future in sha Allah.

I know a Somali family who adopted an abandoned newborn baby girl. The Somali couple raised her like their own child. So admirable.

Thank you. And ameen. My great grandfather used to run an orphanage in his spare house. Sadly after his death. The orphanage closed.

I will open one in his honor. Inshallah

You should walaahi, I have went to Xamar and Hageisa both and there are so many street kids out there with no one to care for.
I think that's the least we could do, give them shelter, food and a chance for them to compete with other kids in terms of education
Not to mention the amount of ajar we'll be getting!

Marsha Allah to the people running the orphanage. The kids have nice clean clothes I hope its not just for the camera.

The reason boys get left behind is if they're under two and the adoptive mother isn't breastfeeding at the time of adoption he can't be her maxram in future. I liked the idea of opening smaller units do they can live like they're in a family home. Very great initiative.

I hope those who do adopt them are only Somali and that there will be background checks on them. And i really hope our govts and orphanage agencies are not stupid enough to trust ajanabis, since ive heard some sick nasty stories about Xabashi orphans given to europeans and arabs. Many get turned into legit house maids/slaves and others have their organs sold for organ harvesting. Turning an orphanage into a money making export industry.

by claiming that children are being sold for compensation, for organ harvesting, or for experimental HIV medication testing

Guys the rewards are huge aswell. The prophet said "The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “I and the one who sponsors an orphan are like this in Paradise.” Then he joined between his index and middle fingers.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî (5304)] Imagine being that close to the prophet in heaven.

Just 30k a year for that orphanage would do wonders.

I would adopt but only babies. I think you and your husband/wife need to be extremely mature and patient to adopt a 7 year old.

Not adopting a 3 year old boy because it goes against the beliefs of seventh century Arab tribesmen.

:O27GWRK:

That's not true @KowDheh somalis abandon boys and tend to not adopt because of the stereotype of boys, that they're stronger. Most of the abandoned children you'll see are boys as well. It has nothing to do with being Mahrim.

Little babies won't get adopted because they're boys.

Yes, even family members adopt the girl children and let the boys (from parents who died) fend for themselves, they assume the boys can work in the town. They believe girls are more at risk, that why you never see any girls as street children.

That's sad for the little boys. No wonder they end up in militia as cannon fodder for money.

Anyways just helping one orphanage is nothing if we look at the bigger picture. There are soo many that we would need billions and billions in housing, feeding, clothing, educating and taking care of their medical needs till they they are 15 or 18 depending on how governments by then decide to define when a child becomes an adult.

I was always under the impression that children are adopted by their aunties and uncles?
