Very Interesting segment of the video on the possibilities of an Ethiopia that went down the same path as Imperial Japan in the 19th century to modernise & develop into a major industrial powerhouse:

Imo, Imperial Italy would lose a lot more to an Industrialised Ethiopia & would've never managed to conquer Eritrea from Ethiopia in this alternate timeline, therefore allowing Ethiopia maintain access to the Sea & build a navy etc.

There's a big question mark on how an Industrialised Ethiopia would deal with the European powers controlling the Somali territories. In this timeline, i'd postulate that Ethiopia would join the Allies in WW1 to win more territory from Italy & conquer Italian Somaliland. Whereas, in WW2 Ethiopia would side with the Axis powers and conquer British Somaliland & French Somaliland from the Allied powers & go down the same path as Imperial Japan which intended to create an empire in Asia & the Pacific.

Overall, a very interesting alternate timeline.

I think this video is overplaying Ethiopia’s military might. It’s the Somalis that were the militaristic and nationalistic people in Africa, without Qabiil we would’ve easily been the imperial Japan of the Horn. Just look at the history of the two nations, it was always the Somalis who conquered and drove off empires WITHOUT the unity of the entire country. Local qabiils and small sultanates managed to overpower the Europeans several times. Once again, Qabiil is the main reason for our downfall.

However, like in the current timeline, Imperial Japan was surrounded by Asian countries that were colonised or being bullied by the European powers, but that did not stop Imperial Japan from starting it's own empire which eventually led it to go down the path of going to War against Imperial Russia which Japan won & enabled the Japanese to cement their Empire through acquiring Taiwan, parts of China & Korea etc. Plus, Japanese victories in WW1 led them to acquire more territories in the Pacific & expand their Empire at the expense of the Germans.

Furthermore, it would be very likely that an industrialised Imperial Ethiopia would go down the same path as Imperial Japan in the current timeline & win against Imperial Italy to retain control over Eritrea & go to war against Italy again in WW1 to abosrb Italian Somaliland into its Empire. However, WW2 would've likely ended in the demise of the Ethiopian Empire when they join the axis powers to fight against the remaining European powers in East Africa, the French & the English to absorb French & British Somalilands.

Yes they're full of themselves & actually they're more nationalistic than Somalis will ever be. The Ethiopians have held onto their traditions & culture, whereas Somalis have been culturally arabised.

You're under-estimating the capabilities of an industrialised Ethiopia in the alternate timeline, just like how the Japanese were under-estimated by the Western Powers & were surprised when the Japs destroyed Imperial Russia in mechanised/Modern warfare.

Best believe an Industrialised Imperial Ethiopia will aspire to control all of East Africa & conquer Somali territories from the European powers.
