American Science is dying?

Reminds me of an interaction I recently had with a Biochemist in Boston. They told me about how the government keeps gutting their funding under the current administration (I think it was prior as well) and they outright said, "If it continues like this American science is dead.", needles to say that I was shocked at that statement.

I live in the Greater Boston area nowadays and came here for an Analytics master's about 1.5 years back. Boston's the heart of American education and research so it was shocking to hear a researcher in such a place say that but when you couple what they said with what's in the video it really does seem to me like America's slowly on its way out as a global research hub...

As long as the millitary industrial complex is still around America will be a global leader in tech but the the climate change research will die out

The courts ordered Trump to continue the funding but the Chinese diaspora probably want to return home since there country is a super power now and with the Mini Cold War in the pacific post 2014 don’t blame them

It's not just "climate science". To be honest, in genuinely seems like your country is gutting pretty much everything that isn't focused on killing people and even then... but we'll see.

I have said it before. China is experiencing the opposite of India, they are experiencing a Brain Gain and not a Brain Drain.

This is not comparable to Chinese for example , where the Chinese H1B migrants are fewer in number and largely go back to their home country to take with them American science, technology, trade secrets and start their own companies in their own homeland. You see this every day.

It directly translates to growth in technology and investment in emerging technologies. So for China it is a Brain Gain, rather than a Brain Drain.

Chinese returnees are helping making China a scientific and technological powerhouse.

American science is drying up price sly because they rely too much on highly skilled foreigners through the H1B visa program. Whereas with China invest heavily in their domestic human capital

They are also more at fault when you take into account how the MAGA/Republicans defund education which lowers the quality and make it more expensive less affordable and less accessible then they turn around and complain about bringing highly skilled foreigners to fill the those slots.
