Any new history drops?

Have we reached the full extent we know about Somali history without any new physical archeological works done?

I feel like almost every topic that could be covered has been covered 100x. Adal, ajuuran, punt, marjateen, city states and much more all pretty much have been extensively covered and talked about. You can even see forum post dating back to 2013 with relatively the same level of info we have now talking about the same things we are now.

Maybe every now and then I may come across an interesting tidbit or character but that’s it.

The closest to a major revelation was last year when someone discovered an earlier civilisation and the earliest known evidence of the name Somali in a Chinese textbook.

Do you think we will get any other major discoveries or do you think the next step is archaeological exploration?

We should look into getting access to manuscripts. We could also investigate the Ethiopian archives.

There is a lot of Somali history that is undiscovered, I believe there are old books preserved by some Somali families

Yeah the offline info that is lying around is great but is there any actual attempts to recover the books and manuscripts

Man, I completely forgot about that thread. The first thing I'm going to do the next time I go to somali for vacation is ask around about mansucripts and local history. And buy any local books on this topic. We probably have more sources to reconstruct our history for the last several centuries than 90% of africa. But nothing is published. I encourage everybody here the next time you go to somalia. Buy books and ask around about local history and mansucripts.

Apparently There are a few interesting books written by a Somali scholar Mahamed Hussein Macalin on the contributions of Somali scholars to Islamic sciences. Perhaps he may have unearthed a few unknown gems with his research. Anyone here read his works?

This was one is in Arabic is about Somali practices in studying Arabic morphology:
إسهامات الصوماليين في دراسة علم الصرف. بين المدرسة التقليدية والنظامية
Same author has written another book in Somali- Tariikhida culimada soomaali

Damn so these manuscripts are getting left to rot in some Arab country.
We can find lots of manuscript in the horn as well such as the Awsa chronicles in the Danakil desert and in Djibouti. There are also many left of Harar. Can only hope there's a second part of the futuh left somewhere there

We need a brave patriotic Somali to sneak into the national library of Algeria and take the book back.

I want to know more about the city states I wanna know about the transition between the medieval and city states.

I want more information that’s new about Somali history like a hidden civilisation.

I think when it comes to archaeology to all we know is 10-15% percentage.

When it comes to written stuff maybe 40%.

Oral paired with Written records being found and collected mixed with Archeology will get us a great understanding of Somali history within a few decades. All it needs is money
