Somali men back home also hug and hold hands. It is seen as normal and a show of walaaltinimo. If you’re confident in your own sexuality, you won’t see this as being “homo”.

I remember the first time I arrived to Hargeisa, I noticed two men walking in the suuq, holding each other around the waist. I pointed to them and asked my mom, “Hooyo, is that normal?” She said, “naa wadankii gaalada ma joogno. This is wadan Muslim.”
