Are your for or against federalism in Somalia

I’d like to hear people’s opinions on this it’s one of the most polarizing topics when it comes to Somali politics lots of people present good arguments for both sides

Somalia has stable areas and chaotic areas. Federalism is useful for keeping the stable areas stable and minimizing the spillover from chaotic areas. But once all of Somalia stabilizes inshallah, federalism (at least the way we practice it) will have outlived its use. We can move on to having a more centralized democracy similar to the American model.

What do you think are the issues with the way Somalis practice federalism explain ?

What would you prefer current federal system or the original 18 regions I’d like to hear your viewpoint
The original 18 regions but without the 4.5 system and instead 1m1v for president, MP's and all parts of government in a proper direct democratic federal system but there can be some tweaks here and there to better fit somalia and somalis but nothing that promotes qabyaalad.

You brought up some good points

There are only three real adminstrations in Somali territory, FGS, Puntland and Somaliland.

Not sure happens in the end I don't know but I know what will never happen:

1) A federal model (JL, SWS, PL, KGS, HS, GM)
2) A central government that controls all 18 regions

1) Most of these states don't exist and have no basis in history, the only real one is Puntland and that's because of it's unique factors.

2) That's obvious because it's been rejected in most of the country due to past (Darood) abuses while in Government and Hawiye abuses in the absence of government both groups vying for that kind of authority will be rejected.

Not sure what happens with the South. It can probably never be a country again to be honest. Just not sure how it ends. Puntland isn't viable as a stand alone state.

I think it's cheap enough though for the Western countries to hold the corpse together for the forseeable and stop the it bursting over the rest of region.

FGS is very weak and ineffective. Regional presidents act completely independently, they even make deals with foreign states. There are no direct elections, so shacabka have no say in what FGS does. This means federal officials do not have to answer to the people so they can be as corrupt as they like. It is all very dysfunctional.

Like I said, this system is only good for minimizing the spillover from chaotic pockets of the south. But no war lasts forever. Once these regions stabilize, we need a complete overhaul of the current system.

Yeah Somali politics is definitely corrupt hopefully when the country stabilizes everybody can come to the table and work on the best system for the country

This is exactly what it was meant for. Take a look at the map of somali states. They all have a border with Ethiopia and access to the sea. It's how general gabre designed it when he drew up the new map of Somalia

I want proper federalism in Somalia, not these pseudo-mini nation states that undermine any state building process.

I also want reforms done on the demographics of each region, starting with Benadir. I don’t want to see clan dominated states so I would incentivise residents as much as possible to move to other states.

No repeat of 1991, where a tribe can have their way with city residents because they form the majority. Also, I never want to hear, this is our qabiil territory for anything related to Somalia, ever.

Personally, I don’t know about y’all, but considering there aren’t any regulations on property or rent controls, my family would eat well the moment we defeat AS and the economy starts to grow/property booms.

That would just recreate the conditions of 1969, unless that's what you want. Won't be accepted.

There should be tax incentives to people that leave their qabiil homeland and touch grass in other areas of Somalia. Make it so lucrative that so many people start leaving their qabiil homelands and settle elsewhere.

Problem solved. Only need a government that generates enough revenue without taxation to do it. So hopefully, those natural resources are real lmao.

I think you ignored the point completely. Xamar is fine, we don't need a repeat of 1969, until those culprits are all brought to justice.
