Axum continued to claim areas that they previously conquered even if they lost control over them, this was common in the ancient world. Also the large scale settlements of Arabians in Eritrea and Tigray occurred around 900BC to 500BC, so around 1000 years before Ezana, Axumites probably felt some type of connection with South Arabians as this migration was probably still within there historical memory, I wonder if this motivated them to claim Arabia.
