Baraawe DNA Test Results

Very Interesting I was expecting him to get more somali but he only has 5% what do you geneticists and historians of the forum think of his results? @Step a side @The alchemist @DivineMartial @Idilinaa
All his Somali ancestry is hidden in the Ethiopian and that’s because of the excess Arabian he has compared to the average Somali. It skews up the results.

His results matches what we know about the Banaadir coast which is local Somalis mixed with Arab & Indian merchants mixed with Bantu slaves. I can tell his Arab ancestry is Omani because of the extra Persian although this could be due to his central Asian ancestry.

Oh thats because theres not much data on benadiris that the data turned out this way, makes sense but the comments say otherwise pushing narratives that they built the cities and whatnot also is the portugese ancestry thing a myth or is it in select cadcads only?

He's using a bad testing kit. I would guess he would get more Indian and Somali on a proper testing kit. A lot of the Arab ancestry would probably end up being Persian or some other Iranian group from the borderlands between South Asia and Persia. Reer Baraawe is quite different from the CadCad up north genetically and comes from a different migrational pool. I would argue the Arabian admixture was pre-mixed, as most Indians come from an Islamified group of South Asians long before they migrated to Somalia.

Linguistically, many of them speak a form of Swahili aswell as Somali. The only other Somali groups that speak non-Somali dialects are the Bantu-Somalis, which makes sense given their fractured ancestry. Bantu might be their single largest ethnic component, and this admixture occurred much more recently.

Interesting to contrast them with the CadCads in Mogadishu, who on average score well into the 50% range, with the median closer to 70% for most. To hypothesize, this might indicate that the Baraawe group in the city occupied a lower social status. This theory could be reinforced by their association with textile work, a craft they are still known for today. Given how Somali culture traditionally views craftsmanship, it is likely they predominantly married into surrounding freed Bantu populations and gradually adopted their language over time creating Chimini.
