Somalia being literally almost finished. No representation in media like we have now with even most popular scandi rappers, canada rappers, uk rappers being somali. Models, actors, we have a lot now


Community was tighter knit, had more self respect. A lot genuinely thought we'd go back soon.

I actually enjoyed growing up in the 2000s ngl even though our reputation was at it’s worst nobody knew or cared about Somalis in the state I was born in. I got to enjoy a disturbance free childhood. It was serene. I look back on those sweet memories with fondness.

FYI we did have someone to represent us then. The most notable Somali figure of that time was Iman. Ajanabis used to bring her up whenever I said I was Somali. I hardly consider rappers worthy figures fit for representing us. If you aren’t representing us in beauty, talent, and/or merit then you can just f off tbh.
