Looks like Mogadishu port crushed berbera in 2023. 2024 long way still to go but difference isn’t as pronounced. This post shows opposite to me even though I do think Berbera port outperforms all somali ports

Like he said Red Sea was a problem in 2023 but already Ethiopia has diverted some of it's port use from Djibouti in 2024 so expect it to go far in the other direction from now on.

Ethiopia imported 8.7 million tons of cargo over the last six months, with half a million tons of goods and commodities flowing the other way. More than 95 percent of the cargo passed through Djibouti, while 2.75 percent (primarily coal imports) moved via Tadjourah, and 1.78 percent through Berbera.


The bulk of the imports was moved from Djibouti to Ethiopia using trucks, while the Railway transported 14.65 percent of the total. The containerization mandate stands at 60 percent.

Negotiations in the MoU will be up to 30% being diverted from Djibouti so a significant increase.

You keep forgetting that's it's Literally a new port built with almost 400 Million the main purpose was Berbera to become a gateway to all of Africa But Mogadishu was just renovated not invested the Turkish company only manages the logistics and containers for inspection because Al shabaab used to import explosive chemicals through Mogadishu port for many years until the Turks arrived and it's not even doing bad without investment.

This is why we leased the port to the Emirati Company in the first place. We don’t have the funds to upgrade it ourself.
Now the question is why did your govt lease Mogadishu port to the Turks for basically nothing in return? At a political level SL govt has made a great decision as Berbera as transforming before our eyes. Berbera will return to its glory days as one of the main important gateways to the Horn Of Africa!
