Rates seem fair for a small African port.

The elders are just complaining that they aren't getting their share and not realising their relevancy is fading.

The tariffs of necessities such as rice, flour and sugar are 80 cent per TON whereas luxury items like vehicles have a tariff of 35 dollar. That's beyond reasonable. This is why I despise development diids like the OP. Just like they don't like who's ruling they are willing to ruin for the rest of us

Italians are the most corrupt people in Europe. Therefore a italian former colony, which happens to be the most corrupt place on earth, is paradise for them.

The businessmen in Bosaso don’t want to pay taxes. They want to be able to bribe poorly paid port admins and get their goods tax free.

The rates are actually too fucking low!

I think this is just the tariffs that goes to the P&O ports for their services. They still have to pay tax, that goes straight to Puntland. Some don't want change, those tariffs used to end up in their pockets

We are talking about 35 dollars for a fucking car and 80 cents per ton of vegetables. It would be interesting to know how much the tariffs use to be? Even if it was zero, which I highly doubt, this is worth the investment. Expanding the port means that their cargo's will be docked sooner. I heard stories of shipments waiting for 2/3 weeks to be unloaded.

These annoying anti development folks will only delay the start of the expansion of the port. The success factor of this deal comes down to whether the port is expanded within two years.
