I'm not bravanese but my grandfather and his father before him both had benadiri wives from Merca and Xamar.

They're not one people. They come from a variety of different peoples: Yemeni, Omani, Syrian, Portuguese, Indian, Balochi, Tajik, Perisan, Bantu, Somali; they just inhabited the same town (most left during the civil war). They speak Swahili.

They produced a couple billionaires: Oman based Mohamed Al-Barwani and AUN Mombasa based Tahir Sheikh Said.

They live in the southern coastal town called Brava/Baraawe, as people they are multiracial and function as a confederacy of different clans. The people look most diverse in Somalia from bantu to light and middleground. Besides the typical bantu, Arab, Persian some also have Portugese in them since they have history in Baraawe where they tried to capture it but failed they lost and some of them were stranded there.

One famous Barwani and Somali patriot is Dr Maryam Qassim.

They are mixed Somalis, descendants of arab traders who settled in Somalia
