US President Donald Trump is planning to withdraw 20,000 American troops from Europe, which would reduce the current contingent by approximately 20%, Italian news agency ANSA reports, citing a European diplomatic source.

Trump also intends to require European countries to provide financial support for the American forces that remain stationed in Europe.

According to ANSA, it is too early to specify the amount European nations might be billed for the upkeep of the remaining US contingent.
