he's spot on with the car thing. it's impossible to drive in xamar, checkpoints, traffic and bad roads.

he's also right when he says people will try to get every dollar they can out of you.

apart from those two i'd say it's "okay", when i was there i could walk pretty much anywhere i wanted and did just that. i remember i walked from where i was staying to liido and found it just as relaxing as walking in a western country.

Xamar is a unique case in Somalia, it’s a multiethnic city, something not at all common in other parts of Somalia, the mentality and the way people think down there is different too (cosmopolitan vs provincial). What applies in xamar won’t apply in other parts.
