It depends on where it is being build and the population number and funding those who live there. New deegans are usually built as tribal frontier expansion not to create communities. Some places create communities surrounding a commodity which serves as the industry there but I have not seen that in Somalia.

Sincity study Carmo in Puntland. It's an Ali Saleban Town. It was built in 2005. Before that it was unsettled open land. The reason they wanted it was to have road access to Bosaso-Garowe-Galkayo-Mogadishu-Hargeisa. Qandala their main area is cut off due to mountains and the red sea. But in my opinion it would've been cheaper just to build a road for Qandala connecting to the main high-way, rather then create another town which is essentially on 'osman mahmoud territory'. I consider it a tribal expansion frontier project but the king at the time gave his blessing to it, I am certain lots of osman mahmoud must of been furious.

That's the only local publicized one I know about. In Puntland when they create 'degaans' I know their is 3 categories.

1. Diaspora. Garowe and Bosaso are building two new degaans

Green city is Bosaso new neighborhood

This is the new Garowe neighborhood $90 million project

The diaspora usually one new neighborhoods so they live western lifestyles in Garowe and Bosaso primarily. That is one section new 'degaans' are done for in Puntland. The second section is the 'carmo' type of locals who want access to the main highway so their property prices increases. The third section is IDP who also get town planning which include your own ina adeers @sincity even their eating in Puntland which @PuntiteQueen doesn't like to hear but it's the truth.

Town plans in Puntland always include the basic

1. Water, electricity, roads, homes, mosque, school, hospital
2. Sometimes a market place

I have been to Carmo. It is composed of hastily built box houses

That was 15 years ago when it started but it's grown bigger.

They built the homes before laying down the roads. They could've created a 'grid' network similar to Garowe roads if they town planned it. Before building houses, they needed to ensure all the roads were done first. Similar to green city in Bosaso or New Garowe neighborhood being built now.

Most cities in the new world were built by creating a grid system first. You lay down the roads and the pipes first. However realistically these villages in Somalia will never grow into large towns cause they are always inland and have no potential industry.

I think you are right sxb. Most deegans are built as a frontier expansion now that I think about it.

100 hundred years later some other tribe is gonna claim your deegan as their historic area:damedamn:
I think its key to think about all possible outcomes and make plans to position your deegan in a strong defensive position aswell be upto date with realities on the ground. These problems usually arise if you decide to build your deegan on the border with another clan :cosbyhmm:

All that work your gonna put in just so another clan will walk in for free and start some shit down the line. That’s tough.:hova:

Planning and building a modern deegan requires some urban planning knowledge. There's a urban planning manual for Somaliland you can find online to get the gist of what's needed.

If you so interested in building new 'degaans' why not study the Puntland Story. Since the whole place was built up from 98 till now. It's still continuing on creating new 'degaans' as you are interested in.

Masha'Allah, looks like a good plan and the adding on of 4 new Xaafads. Hobyo needs new Xaafads and expansion aswell and it will easily become the hub of Galmudug and rival Xamar long term
Yes city planning is needed all over Somalia.

Hobyo port has more than enough potential customer base too even bother Xamar. We will both thrive together Inshallah.
