After meeting about 8 different somalis that resided in Syria I was convicted that Syrians were the greatest Somali hosts ever.

One person told me that as a child they went to school wearing military scout uniforms and were taught to sing the national army. They were even trained in a military children camp for eventual Israeli invasion.

They said that no one uttered the words "cabid" in any time they were there. Yes there was curiosity from their school peers who asked "why are you black" but then the teacher would chastise them.

And the funniest story told to me was that in the neighborhood Somalis lived there would be a Banana seller who would go around early in the morning, with a wheelbarrow, yelling "al-Somal al Muus"

It does not cost much to travel from Yemen to Turkey and then into Europe. They can borrow money or whatnot rather than going to a 4th world Sub-Saharan country.
