Change my mind: If you are qabiilist, you cannot claim Somalia is homogenous

This actually got me vexed for ages. Certain Somalis will sit around, many of them on this forum, spitting absurd hate against other qabiils then turn around and say “I’m proud to be Somali, we are ethnically homogenous”.

Yes, we are ethnically homogenous but we are also the most divided nation on earth. That is purely due to qabiil. That’s the harsh truth.

Somalis will say stuff against their own brethren that our neighbours wouldn’t say about other ethnicities inside their own borders.

So in 2024, I am done telling Somalis to ditch qabiil. I have smaller wish, if you wanna engage in FKD, I don’t wanna see you in the general section saying “ooh we are homogenous, Soomaaliya ha noolaato”. Leave that juxtaposition at the door, fadlan.

What shocks me about all this when I hear about Somalis saying: “if you ain’t Muslim then you’re ain’t Somali”. When Somalis are also the types of groups that divides against each other due to clan differences and wage war by killing each other due to clan politics. This contradicts the notion of Somalis and Islamic identity being the same entity. When in reality it’s a cope to feel better about themselves. In reality clan identity that has been the most important and influential identity that have shaped Somalia and Somalis for centuries.

Somalis have tendencies in dividing each other. That just how we function unfortunately. The idea of being homogeneous is true. But people back home are not educated on this matter.

qabyalad should be treated like substance abuse, people who suffer from it should seek treatment by addressing the root cause, they also need a support system in the process :)

No Somali clan would accept a murtad and no one accepts non-Muslims as Somalis. This is agreed upon. We know why you would be bothered by this.

What about this is shocking? Muslims still struggle with sins and there is a lot of strife being fuelled by outsiders looking to keep the country divided and destabilized.

So yes, tribalism is an issue that needs to be dealt with but that we do not accept gaalo is something that we do right among many other things.
