Interesting from a linguistic aspect that it survived for so long .

That said , some of the points he made need querying .

1. He said Zwahili ( Bantu ) speakers were displaced from places like Merca and Muqdisho .How accurate is that , especially in regards to the first city ? I thought the Hawiye groups had already settled in Marka by the Middle Ages and it was outside of the Zwahli Sphere of influence ?

Don’t listen to this white men who only discovered the Bantus and other non Somali groups in 1990’s. Marka was ruled from muqdisho since 1985. And there was no such sawahili sphere influence in marka maybe barawe but difinitly not marka.

The land has been inhabited by Hawiyes since the 13th century when the clan hawiye was first documented by ajnabis. «The first written reference to the Hawiye dates back to a 13th-century document by the Arab geographer, Ibn Sa'id, who described Merca at the time as the "capital of Hawiye country". The 12th century cartographer Muhammad al-Idrisi may have referred to the Hawiye as well, as he called Merca the region of the "Hadiye", which Herbert S. Lewis believes is a scribal error for "Hawiye", as do Guilliani, Schleicher and Cerulli» Note that Merka was never a Swahili settlement or influence. Its been inhabited by ethnic Somalis.

Merka was Biimaal and Ajuraan, but Mog was largely Persian and Arab. I know there is a district in Mog with a Swahili name (not Shangani) that was supposed to be an early Swahili settlement. Can't find that link right now, but check this out:

The early house doors in Mog were definitely Swahili.

Where were these so called “displaced” Swahili’s when Somalis were ruling Benaadir 700 years ago?

Omanis (the closest people to Swahili’s) only entered the Southern Somali coast around the 19th century and were already ousted in the late century by the Italians.

Grant , thanks . I will read that when I have a chance .

The professor also claimed that the migrant arabs were the originals of Barawe? I thought they came to the town and found the Tunni people there ? Barawe clearly existed before the Arab and Middle Eastern migrants settled there .

"It was narrated by a number of Historians talking how Brava was found. However, oral tradition relates that Aw Ali was the first, from the interior settled in a forest between cara Gaduud and Deexo (the red dunes and the white sands). Before Aw Ali settled he studied large area between Goobweyn and Barava, looking a place that suites his family needs. Aw Ali liked the freshness of the ocean air and called for help from his people in the interior to clear the forest and build several houses for him and his family this was early 900 M.

Before Aw Ali’s settlement Tuni Shangamaas with their livestock used to leave the area surrounding Brava. Tuni’s presence in the area played a big role in Aw Ali decision to settle the area. The majority of the people believe that Aw Ali himself was from Tuni Shangamaas.
After Aw Ali laid down his foundation, more Tuni moved toward the area from the ocean shores and the inland that is how they become the first people to settle Brava. The second group who moved in are Gala Warday who were under king Brawt. The Tuni’s made a peace treaty with Gala Warday that lasted close to 300 years. Some historians believed that Brava was named after Gala Warday’s king Brawt."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sultanate_of_Mogadishu

"The various Sultans of Mogadishu are mainly known from the Mogadishan currency on which many of their names are engraved. However, their succession dates and genealogical relations are obscure.[31] The founder of the Sultanate was reportedly Fakr ad-Din, who was related to Sheikh Abadir Umar ar-Rida, the patron saint of Harar.[3"

In case you're wondering, Sheikh Abadir was indisputably an Arab.

Reer Hamar and the Cadcads go way back. The Abgal only get control of the city about 1665 AD. (It's in the Codka Beesha Direed.)

Same story always, no it was bantu, no it was arab, no it was aliens, war sharaab
