EXCLUSIVE: Acting NISA Chief “Jama” Arrested With Over $1M

Somalia authorities have arrested the Acting Chief of the National Intelligence Service Agency (NISA) Mr. Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur “Jama” with over $1M in his possession money believed to have been stolen from the spy agency´s coffers, Radio Dalsan reports.
A source confirmed to Radio Dalsan that Mr Nur is under house arrest in Mogadishu and banned from travelling.
“The Nisa Chief was arrested at the Aden Abdulle airport as he planned to fly to his hometown Baidoa. He was found with around one million to one and half million with him. He is now under house arrest” a source who spoke to Radio Dalsan on condition of anonymity said.
Radio Dalsan has learnt that the Auditor General on Sunday launched an investigation into the source of the money. His team of investigators were at the NISA headquarters.
According to the source the agency manages its own finances and the Director of the Finance Department may have been ordered to release the funds from the coffers.
The Auditor General is reportedly investigating among other leads Nur´s acquirement of public land near Mogadishu´s Liddo beach where he is alleged to be constructing a two storey residential home.
On Thursday a group of protesting kin of deceased NISA agents demonstrated outside the headquarters demanding to receive monthly stipend that had been delayed for three months according to the source.
NISA agents fired in the air to disperse the demonstrators who demanding an audience with Mr. Nur.
Mr. Nur was the Charge D´Affaires at the Somali Embassy in Turkey and is said to be closely link to the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu.
The arrest comes as the country awaits for President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo to announce the announcement of the new NISA chief following the sacking of Abdullahi Mohamed Ali Sanbalolshe in October 2017.
The Farmaajo administration has tighten the noose on corruption in its first year in office pledging zero tolerance to fraud.
