He took that % as sample for pure CushiticEthnic Somalis are maximum 88-92% Cushitic or in other words Neolithic NE Sudanese. This video is wrong.
But nice try anyway.

I meant as proxy or measure to Cushitic since the Somalis are the most homogeneous group of those who descendent from CushitIt doesn't exist.
There are also no pure Semites, no pure Indo-Europeans etc.. just some groups that have it in the high 80%, low 90%s.
Too long ago.
We might have the highest % autosomal ancestry of those early migrants from NE Sudan? Not sure about the Saho in Eritrea who are EV22, maybe they have pretty high as well? They don't have much omotic ancestry either I think and little JEthnic Somalis are maximum 88-92% Cushitic or in other words Neolithic NE Sudanese. This video is wrong.

I see! Is there a reason why somalis never mixed with habesha or others significantly in the past as much? Seems like most people in the HOA ("Cushitic people including semitic speaking Cushitics") are hard to tell apart except for somalis. It is probably highest in Somalis and Afars, but neither are 100% Cushitic.
Sahos, despite their high E-V22, are mixed with Habeshas (probably through women) more than Afars because they live closer to Habeshas.

I think some sort of hunter gathererwhat is the remainder 8-12%?
You guys need to be more specific when specifying hunter gatherers because all Africans who lived south of the Sahara desert were all hunter gatherers. Hunter gatherers from the horn or Ethiopia were the ancestors of all Nilo-Saharan speakers and most likely had similar build and phenotypes as other Nilo-Saharan ethnic groups.
Is the HG component of our DNA the same as those in Ethiopians or are we talking about a different group of HGs ?The hunter-gatherers that were local to the Eastern parts of the Horn. They do not exist today.
Every region of the world had its hunter gatherers. Those in Somali areas did not speak Nilo-Saharan languages nor did they have any cultural nor even genetic affinity with them. I highly doubt they were tall and blue black. Essentially we are dealing with a different group of African.

Interesting. Hunter gatherers don't replicate as much as neolithic people and can be isolated in a small region for 1000s of years as long as their food supply isn't affected. It makes perfect senseIt is not the same as the one found in Ethiopians. There exists a sequenced Ethiopian hunter-gatherer from the central parts of Ethiopia and it is a terrible fit for Somali HG ancestry.
Anthropologists often say Africa is the most genetically diverse continent, when they say this, they are usually referring to the hunter-gatherer populations as those have 10x the genetic diversity of agriculture groups.
Hunter-gatherers in pre-Neolithic Europe vs hunter-gatherers in the Caucasus of the same time period before the Neolithic had as much genetic distance between them as modern Europeans and modern Han Chinese do between each other.
