Weird that there is so many words for cat in somali. Could this possibly highlight a culture that was obsessed with cats in the past?
I've heard of Mukulaal and we do use curre in the north for male cats, bashoo is the oromo word for cat, dummu/bissa is the word for cat in Afar.

I saw that infograph a few days ago when I was looking at the Somali word for cat, as some people here were using words othe than "Mukalaal". Growing up in Kismayo, it was always Mukalaal. Before SSpot, I have not come across any other variation.

Personally use Bisad but I've heard nyaanyuur being used, kinda funny "Nyan", is the Japanese word for "meow"

source is:
I use mukuleel (not mukulaal) a lot and yaanyuur super rarely

Why does the first af maay word sound like the sound (inyoow) that kids who don't want to follow your orders say in xamar and why does the second af maay word start with a N unlike yaanyuur?
