Desert Sand Into Fertile Farm

For Somalia historically they planted trees in the desert sand dunes near the coast all over . So they should definitely do this but vast majority of the land that is schrub/grasland up north can benefit from holistic management practices or controlled grazing
One thing he should do is apply holisitic management , he can turn the whole area into thicker grassland by doing plan grassing with the cattle

Keep them in one area let them poop etc and then move them to another etc. You fertilize the soil and give it time to recover by not overgrazing it.

Other things could be like setting more greenhouses like the way we've seen some in Puntland and Somaliland do it.

Much of the northeast can slowly be turned into large rotational herding lands for the likes of camels, cattle, goats and sheep then once we have the funds and energy we can try to create industries around quality meats, dairy, wool and leather products.

That alongside the sorts of greenhouse projects you mention and a fishing industry focused on Chinese type dense fish farm sites, tuna plants and dry fish exportation to Asia where it's popular would make the otherwise arid Northeast quite "agriculturally" prosperous in time.

Nice but somalia already has loads of farmable land. that type of farming in the video is too intensive and can only be done on an individual scale or high value produce.
With modern irrigation system you can probably farm anywhere, but then you also got to look at
soil type.

Theres a massive thread on this

Its nice to invest in farming techniques in poor soil, but why do that when somalia has so much good land thats for agriculture

Ah I dont think somalia would need chinese dense fish farm sites. They need it since their a massive population that eats fish like crazy. Their sea isn't enough thats why you have them sending fishing fleets half way across the world for fish.

I wouldn't underestimate how much foreigners have depleted our waters. That and creating a more sustainable, controlled source of fish rather than just going for what's on our shores. We can also hit a surplus and become strong exporters by taking advantage of our huge coast + dense farms like they do across China.

I think there's plenty of fish, Somalia has a lot of ocean . All we need is good protection of our seas and all the issues you list wont be a problem. Im not sure how strong the fish market is, that would probably determine if building dense farms is even a good idea.
