dhaqan Celis boarding schools.

Why can’t the Somali government/regional states have boarding schools where Somalis abroad pay to have their troubled youth go so they can learn our culture, language, deen etc The system I’ve heard of is one of abuse back home people think if I beat you enough you should get what I’m saying. We need a better system that has the government overseeing it.

If they did this (and the school had good funding) I'd actually love to got to an all girls daqan Celis school just for funsies
Yeah imagine having a boarding school in the mountains of sheikh in northern Somalia/somaliland whatever you wanna call it we have youths who speak no Somali, don’t eat Somali food etc

You have to know the condition the dhaqan celis youth go through, like abuse, sometimes sexual harassment, etc. the dhaqan celis are being viewed as an easy target for harassment by some Somalis in Somalia, especially the dugsi or relatives of the youngster.

Building this type of school will attract all those psychos and people who have stereotypes about dhaqan celis youth, which is not good idea.

Glad some somali parents who send their kids to dhaqan celsi are waking up to the abuses their kids go through back home.

Boarding schools cost a lot of money to build ,something which no one wants to spend in an insecure place like Somalia

I have been seeing lots of international schools tho which offer Cambridge system IGSCE
American system etc

This will be a haven for abusers of all kinds and God knows what other deviants who will work in that school to exploit teens who don't have parents or loved ones to advocate for them and these kids speak limited Somali and are already looked down upon due to the stigma of being 'daqan celis'. Somalia isn't a developed country that will require employees to undergo DBS checks ect. How anyone can trust a gov institution in a place like back home is crazy.

You also have a lot of people back home who have malice and jealousy for youngsters who were born and raised abroad and you will get a lot of the local kids who are also enrolled into these type of schools bullying Western raised Somali kids. People don't know this since they've romanticized life back home, but i'd say bullying is worse back home since its usually physical and i've heard many stories of young girls get horrifically jumped by groups of girls and it's common btw. People there are tough and are a product of a society that has seen a lot of chaos and suffering.

Hence as a parent, what 'culture' do you hope to instill in your kids back home? Especially in an environment rife with all sorts of abusiveness and even back home, I'd day the locals themselves need a cultural intervention of their own and your child will simply pick up the worst habits of those in Somalia. People need to stop glorifying and wearing rose tinted glasses because as a parent it's important for you to be there to shield them from the unpleasant aspects of Somali culture. Without the protectiveness of parents, you're simply throwing them to the wolves.

Too many nonces down there and they culturally hide rape/abuse of children to save clan/family face.

Cheap and affordable summer camps in the Middle East or Uk could work though. I know there are some Muslim groups who run spiritual retreats to Morocco, Umrah etc.

The amount of stories I’ve heard when it comes to these boarding schools that will make you recoil is uncountable. I saw this American Somali older couple crying on this American news channel because their child was killed in one of those boarding schools. I’ve heard of cases of kids getting shot for trying to escape by these wayward khat chewing security guards, I’ve heard of cases of so-called male macaalins molesting and beating up young girls. I’m for one at a loss how parents can allow their teen daughters to be sleeping in an environment with random men being in the premise as well.

I don’t know if these parents are overly naive, brain dead or have painted a picture of Somalia that existed in their childhood that simply doesn’t exist anymore. How you can ship your child to a society in which the parents themselves struggle to identify with because of the massive changes since the 60s and 80s to now in 2024 is beyond me.

My own mother, born and raised in Somalia struggles with the mentality of the locals since she left in the late 80s. Somali society isn’t the same as the rose tinted ones our parents love to employ.

Coming from experience Dhaqan Celis is a cop out for parents who can't parent, and relatives back home have this weird cuqdad towards people who live abroad and lash it out on the say wallahi kids. I personally have zero interest to ever step foot in that God forsaken land again.

If you freaking care about your kids do not send them there without your direct supervision aka being there with them.
