Diaspora SYL movement

As diaspora Somalis, I feel like we should be engaging with some sort of a media revolution. Like a SYL but a diaspora version.

Making viral anti qabil content (IN SOMALI). Having a phrase, flag etc. Having intellectuals living in the diaspora to make videos targeting those back home. The videos should include old vintage videos of how happy people used to be when they were working together.

I feel like the videos can help people visualise a life they COULD have if they just stop .. fighting. It should help move the needle, especially with the youth

Honestly i believe the best move would be to make political party and perhaps a ''think tank'' inside Somalia and has operations in the diaspora. The base in the diaspora should be either in Minnesota or DC, because you can connect it to a political lobby.

Especially in the light of the shift that's planned to happen from 4.5 to multiparty politics in Somalia with the elections in 2025 (local) and 2026 (presidential)

It's easier now to lead a civic movement across the country.

Definitely TikTok! Before it gets banned for America. The Somalis on twitter are those with cuqdaad & qabilists. Plus ajnabis are too involved in the Somali sphere on twitter.
We need the movement pushed by Somali fobs on TikTok.

Good idea but who’s going to fund this project?

It doesn’t have to be funded for now. It’s online based. We just need people who are tech savvy and can make really good AI videos. Somalis will make it go viral anyways. All we need is Somalis with huge followings to push it.
The movement needs to have a name, a PHRASE, and a flag. I feel like if the diapsora really push it, the people back home will.

I agree. But the diaspora is really influential. We can do our media revolution from the west (shows, TikTok’s, short films) all of which are viral. Then partner up with UBAD back home. Once we raise money and work with UBAD to give back to the poor.
Key figures in this can be people like Ilwad elman.

It would! There’s also an anti tribalism movement in London but its momentum has slowed down. It’s been years, they even went back home!. Somebody should make a discord & invite everyone on Somali forums. I’m sure there’s someone whose good with media & tech on here
