YEMEN IN THE XI. (XVII.) CENTURY.

caused by government business, he still found time to read the poems, which cheered him up. He gave great gifts, did many good deeds, honored the children of the pious and learned, and saw to it that their rights were restored. That is why he was granted complete victory and why he was lucky in his wars, for he never went out with an army without returning victorious, and the poems in his praise are very numerous. He surrounded Mount Dhรปrรฅn with a wall and built a strong fortress on the top, then he enclosed around it a city so large that it contained market places, bathhouses and mosques, and cleared the fields around it and planted them with fruit trees . Each of his emirs was ordered to build a house here, they followed him and that's how the villages grew up around.

In Luแธฅeija lived an independent princely family, and its members at that time included Abu Surrein Muhammed ben el-Macbรปl ben Othman ben Ahmed ben Musรก ben Abu Bekr ben Muhammed ben 'รŽsรก ben ร‡afi ed-din Ahmed ben Omar el-Zeila'i el-'Okeili; he was born in the year 959 (1552) and had received the given name Abu Surrein from it because he was born with two navels surrein. When he was about to be given a name on the seventh day, his father brought him to the assembled friends, laid him in their midst, and said, "Which of you can lift up your head from the ground?" Everyone tried, but no one was able to, so the father said: This one will take my place after me. Muhammad had older brothers whose mothers were free Arabs, his mother was a slave, his father wanted to wanted to point out to his friends that he would be the most worthy to follow him; God prefers whom he wills. He was so distinguished for his knowledge and prudent leadership that when the government of Luheija was entrusted to him, the inhabitants of the city and the surrounding towns took refuge in him and the nomadic Arabs obeyed him like an emir, and even the Turks, as long as he was at peace with them, did nothing without him

Is that the same family as the one that reportedly founded Zeila, Sheikh Saylici?

I don't think so. Zeila is pre islamic and have existed for at least 2000 years while luhayyah was founded in the 15th century. Another interesting thing that i once read is that the founder of mocha was an arab shiekh that has travelled to the horn of africa and married the daughter of sa'ad a-din ruler of ifat.

I once read about it. Luhayyah Was founded a hundred year earlier by a someone known as sheikh cali a-zaylaci. There is even a post about it.
I think Ahmed and ali are of the same family
There was a highly recpected Zayla'i saint family in luhayyah
The text also mentions the family

"In Luแธฅeija lived an independent princely family"
Ahmed probably isn't descendent of ali but are related

Not a surprise. Many Somali scholars and people who migrated to Yemen gained political power in the country and even influenced culture. I talked about this in one of my recent threads
