Why do they ask for a ride to the airport or to pick them up from the airport when it is much more convenient to order an Uber/lyft.

Thank god for Uber/lyft.

I no longer pick them up or drop them off.

It's fun though to pick them up from the airport and talk about their travel and drive them around. It's part of the experience.
