The stigma surrounding surgical masks or particulate filter masks in the West is why I think Covid-19 will be worse and more prolonged in the West compared to East Asia where they have this culture of wearing those things.

The price of those things has doubled, quadrupled or sometimes even more than that. It would have been an easy business opportunity, but I never expected Covid-19 to spread outside of East Asia.

I hear they paradoxically might make it easier to catch COVID-19 since you’d end up touching your face a lot more putting it on, shifting it, taking it off, taking it off/on when eating and drinking etc.

They work perfectly fine if there's a proper seal and the fit is air-tight, otherwise why would doctors wear them?

The ones categorized / labeled as P3 or P100 are still available on a decent price (formerly mainly used by people in construction/heavy industry), but they look even more ridiculous than the surgical mask ones.
