Doha or Riyadh!! HELP

My cousin received a job offer in Doha, Qatar and Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. What country would be better for her? She’s worried about the whole racism issue. Once we were visiting family in Kuwait and we saw this Kuwaiti lady beating her Ethiopian maid in a grocery store for not picking up the items quickly enough. My cousin tried to intervene and the lady started calling her an abeed and all types of other names but said sorry when my cousin’s Arab fiancé came to see what was going on. Also in Kuwait when people would ask us where we’re from and we’d say Somalia, they’d act disgusted and use it as an insult sometimes.

I’ve heard that Qatar is developing nice and is a lot better than before in terms of racism. But a lot of people, especially white Americans (they always talk about their privilege over other groups), Indians and other Asians talk about how bad it is so we’re not really sure anymore. Saudi Arabia has never been normal but they offered to pay her a lot and she’s be living on an expat compound.

Arabs respect passport, they will never do anything if they know you have a passport. That's the language of the Arab country, a Hindi will be treated well if they have American passport but not an Indian one. Some countries are more obedient to passport than others. Saudi Arabia is a place which respects passport less than Qatar.

Its all good. I personally use the word "nigga" but mainly in reference to myself and other black people laakin I always had discomfort with calling other people racialised terms because they're not my people. Inshallah, we all improve ourselves ameen.

Overall I would say Riyadh. Qatar is tiny and boring as hell. Normally if you gonna be foreign in two countries and living standard is sane. Go to the place with a lot more people. It helps you have much bigger Somali community in there. You never know it could come in hand to have your people near by

God really blessed the wrong people because you never hear people asking if they’ll face racism in Djibouti or Mogadishu. Locals expect you to respect their privacy and not film them but not once have I heard about people being animalistic racists to others. I know people who worked for the UN in Somalia and they said Somalis were nice to everyone and very hospitable. Inshallah the homeland gets better.

If you are doing a white-collar job you should be fine. Just make sure to follow the laws and not break them.

Your cousin is going there with a Western passport and hopefully a degree. Let her walk with her head held UP!!! Unless she is going to be a maid, in that case, i would say--get ready for slapping yaa abiid

I would say Qatar is a better choice. Also watch out disrespecting the locals, they have a higher legal authority and if they report you, they can get you deported or arrested.

Avoid Expat Compounds. AVOID THEM WITH YOUR LIFE. Its basically a open prison, for the white man to strip naked, as he alas, don't want to engage with the local culture. But for your average Somali, please do avoid those compounds, as the culture is for you. Tailored to you.

Riyadh is very boring, Doha is more bubbly then Riyadh, but Doha = Whole of Qatar, whereas Riyadh is only a fraction of the true face of KSA. Jeddah is a lovely place to visit, then you have the 2 holy sites, Mecca and Medina, which basically trumps all other cities.

Yeah, that lady exaggerated A LOT. Rosa Park Level racism is basically outright racism. A US thing really. No, you don't sit in the back. Unless your a women, only for segregation purposes, there isn't this front/back stuff. That is a outright lie. Yes, they do worship the white man but at the same time, money and status talk.
