The Head of State, HE Musa Bihi Abdi received Tuesday at the presidential palace a high level delegation from Dubai Ports World led by its Chairman and CEO, HE. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem who arrived in Hargeisa on working visit.

God bless the UAE and God bless The Rebulic of somaliland. Great to see a world class CEO of a $12 billion dollar business in Hargeisa restoring faith in somaliland. This will only lead to more investment by international businesses and middle sized businesses .

Somaliland will be a great place for business, and will become the Dubai of Africa . Well done to our patriotic revolutionary president Muse Bihi for his hard work to put somaliland on the map.

Allow dhowr somaliland

The DP world deals always seemed against our long term economical interest to me.

It's a bit like drinking poison to alleviate thirst.

UAE will control half our major ports and be intimately aware of all our development plans (not that we have any atm).

They'll also control the lever of one of the biggest revenue sources of the government so they'll have a huge amount of influence and bribery will be as easy as shuffling some documents to them.

Somaliland should just give china land to build another berbera port, Djibouti has a DP world port and a chinese port, why should uae be given a monopoly over our major port when another one can be built a few miles away

China has no reason to.

They are explicitly non-expansionary in their foreign policy and unless we're paying for the port in raw materials then it's a no go for them.

Also they would prefer to avoid not pissing of the Gulf without a valid reason since it's seen as their sphere of influence.

Only one possibly interested could be the Norwegians.

However whoever else you bring in could be like jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.

Maybe we should wait until we can afford to build our own ports.

The West and Japan did it over a century ago.

If we can't do it with all these new resources then do we deserve to breathe the same air as them?

A port is roughly $300 Million Dollars that can easily be raised in bonds by the somali public and diaspora we can easily build our own port next to the DP world one, benefit is the Road is already getting built by Abu Dhabi, Forget china then, FTZ/SEZ could get expanded because of this, effectively one port for ethiopian exportss/imports (dp) and one for national imports and exports (somaliland owned one)

Honestly do you really think that DP world would develop a port in a country if there was a chance that the country could compete against them and build right next door?

Also the road is a pittance compared to the opportunity cost of not developing those projects ourselves.

It may seem like a win on paper but in reality it's closing off opportunities for us.

Technically nothing but finance is stopping us from building a port.

A guy on somnet had a great plan to issue bonds to build berbera by ourselves without the need of DP world.

Somaliland can easily build a port maybe not now but in 5-10 years time heck even zeylac would be useful too.

Did the Europeans need foreign currency when they build their infrastructure starting from the 19th century?

Nope.

They took the materials they needed from their surroundings and built what they need.

Even the latest ports are based on century old designs.

All the government needs to do is print money to fund it and manage inflation somehow.

I really doubt the money needed would be even a fraction of the remittance dollars coming in.

At most we'll need spend a couple million to hire a few consultants to help in the planning and design stage.

No need for FDIs, loans or freebies from anyone.

Plenty of us would be happy to participate in a crowd funding campaign or directly offer up our time.

However it's a shame that the government isn't taking up a leadership role in fully making use of it's resources (people and raw materials that we walk over).

What's missing is feasible projects...the resources to implement them can easily be found.

Yh i meant a crownfounding thing, like ethiopia is doing for the Renaissance dam they issued out bonds to the citizens and diaspora. And that dam alone will make 6000MW that's almost 30 times what somaliland has heck you could even say 50 times. 4 billion investment into a damn that countries as far as tanzania and yemen will use and pay dollars for.

DP world is so corrupt i feel for our brothers in somaliland who signed with these arab snakes. And well done to muse biixi for having the strength to throw them out.

Djoubity cant operate a SINGLE PORT IN THE COUNTRY WITHOUT DP WORLD.

And they are likely to lose the lawsuit in london.thats why they said we will let "local courts" decide. Obviously local courts will agree with the state.

HOWEVER This means heavy revenge to djoubity nationals in uae and djoubity goods being taxes internationaly.
