The final agreement to develop the greenfield free zone was signed between officials from DP World and Somaliland's government in Dubai.

Located next to Port of Berbera, the 12km2 economic free zone is expected to support the port's growth and generate jobs.

Logistics, warehousing, and manufacturing will be the key business lines serviced through the free zone.

Commenting on the project, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, group chairman and chief executive officer of DP World, said: "[The project is] a boost for local prosperity – jobs for the people of Somaliland and future generations.

"We look forward to bringing our global experience here and to help develop the Berbera Corridor, which is key to encouraging regional economic activity."

Dr Saad Al Shire, Somaliland's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, added: "Developing the free zone will complement the growth of Berbera Port, enabling it to become a gateway for trade to the region and the whole of Africa.

"It will also generate jobs for the local population and encourage small- and medium-sized companies in the area to locate their operations in an environment conducive to trade.

"Our partnership with DP World is a model that we are keen to develop and for the benefit of all."

We're not against Somaliland development or any Somali Region, I'm just against Somaliland not having Majority Share and selling 19% to Amxaara.

Mida kale No ones against your development don't be against Djibouti.

Djibouti and Somalia are both against our development in Somaliland. Not because about the shares, but because of envy and jealousy, but don't worry we know they can't do a jack sh!t to us. They aready tried everything to stop this deal and they failed miserably.

I doubt it. Usually any aid destined for Awdal is stolen luckily for them though they have a educated population/big diaspora and don't need aid. They build things by themselves.
Why isnt there any ports in sanaag region? Why is west sanaag neglected? I never understood this.

Simple present day Somaliland = a begging bowl scheme for Berbera, parts of Hargeisa
and Gabiley to get funds from the international community. That is where nearly 70% of
the aid pours into.

An educated population yet, they can't seem to organised themselves enough to split from the greedy ass somaliland self-proclaimed state. :farmajoyaab: In the last 10 years + they have gained nothing from any of the developments and instead they lost an airport.

ikr I've been thinking this for years or even Lughaya.

The awdal region has soo much potential, gadabuuris are just not as ambitions, they need to push for changes in the region.

Heard last year the local government in Borama is letting plans to have a road connecting them to the Djibouti Border. Feeling that will be delayed now as Parliamentary & Local Elections are exactly a year away now
