Due to SSC-Khatumo sanctions, Togdheer’s economy is in dire straits

At the end of the day, Sool region is roughly where it was in Dec 2022 while Somaliland is 20% poorer. That is a fact.

The past 18 months have been worse for Isaaq, than for Dhulbahante. More dead, more captured, and more poverty.

Why stop at 18 months? You seem to love the 18 months. Let's step back a little further and see the full picture.

As you can see Sool had a very bad 2011, 2022 and food prices were just rebounding in 2023. Just happened to coincide with the War in Sool. Bari also had very steep rises in 2021 but Sool had a uniquely steep rise in 2022 for reasons I don't know and you dont' know either.

Anyway I hope the message people take is they should never take numbers at face value. Seems logical to start your analysis in Dec 2022 but it's not really at all. Step back and you see something else.

Sool and Sanaag have lower rates of child malnutrition than Woqoyie Galbeed

A shocking indictment since Sool & Sanaag are largely rural/nomadic while Woqoyie Galbeed and Togdheer are more than 75% urban

Estimation and not actual figures...

You've been at this for over 10 years on Somali Forums.

FKD through bogus stats is your speciality

The 2014 PESS was certified by every government in Somalia, including Somaliland. Sacad Cali Shire, Somaliland's current Minister of Finance, who was at the time Somaliland's Minister of Planning signed off on the survey figures. Siciid Abdullahi Deni, Puntland's current president, and who was at the time the federal government's Minister of Planning also signed off on the survey.

This is why I don't take seriously anyone who questions the 2014 population estimate. Somali politicians at the highest level signed off on this estimate's results.

This is not true, the minister you're citing Sacad Cali Shire is on record rejecting this survey and publicly stated that it was suspended in Somaliland because Puntland was producing fake numbers. Here is the man himself:

You were caught lying 3-4 times in this one thread, what do you get out of lying about basic easily obtainable facts?

Your video is from April 2013, two years before the release of the PESS. He is reacting to the initial rough estimate, not the completed PESS that was published on May 26 2015.

His reaction to the publication of the completed PESS on May 27 2015 shows that his only objection is the amalgamtion of the figures for northern Somalia with those of southern Somalia. Two years after your video, he has stopped lying about the PESS data and is basically saying “why did you include our data with koonfur?”

Day after publication of PESS, no claims of false data.

The 6 month war caused a huge decline in the Isaaq economy. The Isaaq economy has been hit hard due to its entrepôt nature, lacking any notable production.

According to the Waddani party’s economic team:
  • 35% of businesses have stopped doing business or have gone bankrupt.
  • 33% of businesses are operating at a loss.
  • Only 12.4% of businesses are operating at a profit.
  • This trend has been ongoing over the past 5 years, it has only sped up since Dec 2022.
  • 40% decline in livestock exports
  • End of Berbera links with southern Somalia
  • 20% of goods imported over the past 5 years have remained unsold, much of it expiring.
  • A black market in expired goods has developed
  • Double taxation is occuring at customs locations
  • Massive inflation pushing up the cost of living mainly due to money printing

Large surge in prices is causing misery across Somaliland.
Food prices are still rising in Somaliland but have fallen by ~20% in SSC since Dec 2022.
Food prices have been falling for all of Somalia except Awdal, Woqoyi Galbeed and Togdheer.
