Very interesting but still i'm a bit sceptical. A quick search indicates that it's a name of a cotton tree. Also the text speculates the salimali a sanskrit word is the origin of the name "somali" which is wrong since the name "somali" has a somali etymology which is soo maal. Fun fact there is a rendille clan by the name of adhi soomaale also there is an elay geedafadde clan named gaal soomaale meaning geel soomaale. I need to look into the text and read some more. That being said i do believe that the name somali is older than the 15th century. There is this guy that said he once came across a manuscript dating back to 1300 which is 30 years earlier than the arrivel of ibn battuta and it mentioned the name somali.

You're right, but salmali appears to refer to A location in this text not a tree. probably salimali has multiple meanings one of them being somali?

He was a somali guy on facebook and he said he no longer has access to the manuscript nor does he remember the name of the manuscript. I personally searched for it and couldn't find any on the other hand i found other interesting things instead.

Makes sense kkk. I use to find loads of indians and bangladeshi search results whenever i wrote somail on the search bar. I think i even seen a bangladeshi women named somali. Turns out it's an actual word in their language.

Tell me, what did you find?
It's a bit complicated and a long story but in a nutshell while searching for the manuscript i found out that there were an attempt from yemen to invade somalia all the way to harar but some arabs living in zaylac warned the yemeni prince not to do that since the somalis are an enormous nation. The text didn't go into details or anything other than the attempt being around the 18th century. Then i came across a different source which was a hararis historical narration of an invasion led by turkish officers and arab soldier.

They sieged the city of harar and were about to take it but their ammunition depo suddenly caught fire and the harari army did a counter attack kicking them all the way to the coast. A third source spoke about how the arabs were disgruntled and angry about their defeat so they staged another invasion this time against the afar in aussa. After the raid they fled back to zaylac and the afar promised vengeance against the yemenis.

They tried to raid zaylac but guess what there were cisse living between aussa and zaylac. the afar staged a surprise attack on the cisse clan and they initially scattered but once they realized their enemy were afar they regrouped and completely destroyed them. Of cource this is all that i remember from the story currently and how i pieced it together but over all it's three different sources.

So Yemenis wanted to invade us but another arabs warned that that somali landheeres will smoke them so they didn't
Arabs and turks invaded harar and got demolished by hararis (were there somalis??)
After that arabs got angry invaded afars
And afars instead of taking revenge from the cadaan invaded miskeen somalis
They still got destroyed by them.
So we didn't encounter arabs nor turks?

As i said it's three different sources that i pieced to gether. The first is about the yemeni attempted invasion of northern somalia to get their hands on the lucrative trade of harar. It doesn't talk about the invasion itself. The second soruce comes from harar and picks off were the arab source ended that is the invasion itself and the defeat of the arab turkish army.

It said that arab turkish army disguised themselves as merchants by passing the somali nomads and hid their cannons and matchlock guns until they reached harar where they were soundly defeated. I imagine somalis were involved and although i'm not certain but i thinks some somalis were actually raiding the fleeing arab turkish army. The final source a european source picks up after the defeate of the arab turkish army where they raided the afar and then fled towards zaylac basally hiding behind somali nomads.
