The Ethiopian government doesn’t control half of their country. This is a mere distraction, to convince the populace that the nation is making headway. When in reality, their economical output is non existent, civil war is rampant, cost of living has skyrocketed, the country is broke, so much so that they’ve borrowed a lot of money from the IMF, which has decimated their currency / economy, which in turn will see their descendent still paying off their loans. Ethiopia was the first country to beg for a loan from the IMF.

The Gedo Governor was recently on record as saying Ethiopia has been responsible for the security of the state for almost 30 years. Somalis are slapped around by Ethiopian soldiers in Garbaharey and they control the Aiport there. A Similar precareous situation exists in some parts of the Southwest.

In the north west and north East, Ethiopia has very close relationships with those two administrations, going back to as far as when they sponsored rebel groups from those areas. Another calamity is the increasing over reliance of Somalis in the north and central in getting visas from Ethiopia and the use of medical facilities in Harar.

SL is a “buffer state” as described by one of their ministers. Should the MOU go ahead in its current terms, Somalis in Awdal region will essentially be part and parcel of an Ethiopian state.

You will also have Kenya which has turned Jubbaland into a buffer state as described by Wikileaks.

All of This is an existential threat to the return of a strong and viable Somali state. Our biggest problems are shababs lack of compromise; most Somalis now worshiping tribal states which Ethiopia takes advantage off; and, the incompetent, wasteful admin in Muqdisho.
