I looked through the comments they are not really mention Somalia at all, its only one commenter spamming Somalia under other peoples some comments. Some mentioned ethiopia, most are just discussing Egypt and other Arab countries

It actually has it's origins in Ancient Egypt that spread to the surrounding areas , it's really why it's called ''Pharoanic Circumcission. Arabia is connected to North East Africa so it's not really surprising

In the middle east it's more prevalent in the rural areas and less so in the urban areas.

They always try to tie it to Islam when Christian communities practice it. We can blame Ayaan Hirsi for this association. So it's pagan non-islamic tradition that needs to be done away with.

They were making real good progress during the 1970s, but the state collapse reversed things.

They have banned it in under the law since 2012 and sometimes prosecute people for it but they have limited reach and resources to cover ground with this and it still persists probably because there isn't robust educational system in the country that can do away with it.

From studies i have seen. The strongest support come from women, whereas men have a positive open attitude for it's discontinuation. Most young men also prefer to marry uncircumcised women.

I know the West shouldn't be look abroad but at home to address their own version Child genital mutilation aka sex change which is a worryingly normalised trend now
