Beautiful, are cobblestones cheaper than asphalt?
Damn I wanna build a road for my city Abudwaaq but it costs millions just to pave with asphalt you need the machines plus the dump truck filled with asphalt all the way. I dont know how you guys did it without a govtIt isn't cobblestone, they a concrete paving blocks (concrete pavers where I live). People usually use concrete for footpaths, either as concrete slabs or concrete paving blocks. The concrete paving blocks, like the ones in the photos above, obviously look better. They are relatively expensive since you have to lay each block individually (labour intensive).
Asphalt is made to be used as the wearing surface on a road or runway. And its very expensive. You don't use it on driveways or footpaths.

But wouldnt the foundation require levelling? Or existing pavement? It doesn't have to be expensive. You can build a road that has a very thin layer of surfacing, like a sprayed a seal (also called a chip seal). This is the kind of seal that is produced by spraying hot bitumen onto the roadbase and rolling stone chips into it.

You can even build roads out of marginal materials even (lower grade materials usually sourced locally).

I'm sure they would have did that before the put down the asphalt mat.
You strip any topsoil first, you can't have any organic material in the road. Then you run your layers of crushed rock if needed, then you put down your seal or asphalt surfacing. There are other things to consider like drainage and levels etc. but those are the main steps.
The asphalt mat in the video was laid onto a hard smooth surface. I am assuming this is an imported material like a crushed rock, even though it looks kind of clayey. It might be a gravel. Nothing looks out of the ordinary despite what others are saying.
Interesting but you still need the rollers to come in and flatten the road after the bitumen is poured unto the crushed rock. With all the equipment and everything it will cost minimum couple hundred thousand
Wow, this is not something a poorly funded NGO can do, there must be a cheaper alternativeA brand new grader alone costs 600k. A new excavator, say a 20 tonne excavator is like 300k. A 12 tonne roller is like 60k. You're also going to need tandem tippers, water trucks, trailers, profilers, bitumen tankers etc. Yes it is expensive.
Yes, rollers are needed for compaction.
