Thanks to the UN and NGOs undercutting Somali farmers from their livelihood by bringing free cereal they imported from abroad during harvesting season. This way they get more ppl that depend on them for food and having less local produce.
The gov't should make a law that they either source the produce locally or not get involved.
we really need to stop with this UN undercutting stuff that MAYBE worth 1/2 of a % point ! I work in this field the main reason is
1) Old and out of date farming production practices leading to super low yields and farmers just producing for there own consumption.
2) No Power which severely liming yield and quality
3) Storage and transportation is where Somalia really suffers we cant store Food and on top of that we cant transport perishables in a timely manner because of security issue in the main fertile region ( ALSHAYTAAN BASTARDS)
4) a) No governmental Agricultural bank which all countries have ! This bank normally extends a credit line to farmer before harvest season and farmers pay back after selling harvest. This bank works also has insure practices sharing risk when certain farmers produce lower yields so individuals don't go bankrupt affecting the country food supply. This is normally done in the form of subsidies in most countries.
4) b) Without Agricultural bank farmer will go and produce money Crop that dont feed people in Somalia this is Khat but this is manly imported. The main money crop farmer can get a credit line for from trader in Mogadishu who sell export these crop abroad or use in the cities is sesame seed / banana and sugar these are expensive to grow and wont ever help Somalis facing hunger.
