Horta I'm not trippin' am I? Those are not locals, the one sitting and the other guy with the green tshirt.
Nah you ain't trippin this is how it is. When I last went to Hargeisa in 2013 there were pretty much no foreginers but this summer they were everywhere. From Filipinos,Kenyans, Norwegians all sorts.

A similar thing happens in America, where poor immigrants do the jobs that the American-born population doesn’t want to do, like picking fruits in the fields or working in factories. The difference is that American-born people can afford to avoid these jobs since our unemployment is low and the standard of living is generally pretty high.

It’s not that Americans don’t want to do those jobs, they want to get paid more than $1 an hour. Immigrants arent doing those jobs, migrant farmers oo sharci la’an ah are doing those jobs because they can’t demand a better pay.

I didn’t mean it in a literal sense when I said they don’t want to do those jobs, I also meant it in a manner similar to what you just did. And I know that migrants workers are involved in this, I used “immigrants” in a general fashion because legal immigrants also do these sorts of jobs too, I had family working in assembly line factories when they first came here.

This can't be true. Why would they come to our country of all places. I was in somaliland in 2015, I swear I didn't see any but cadaan UN workers and that was rare.

I think it's marketing strategy. Nobody looks down on working in a store/supermarket. But the owner knows how much geeljires love ajnabi and they associate anything foreign with higher quality. Put a dirty indhoyar behind the counter and you'll sell more than when there's Ducaale behind it. You're dealing with badows that named their children after foreign cities and currencies

Somalia needs to pretty much dedicate a tv station to working hard and sweat equity.

People are now refusing to buy homes built by Somalis. It’s turning into a shit show. While other countries are trying to promote “Made In”, Somalis are putting less value on products made by Somalis.

I don’t blame the businesses though, because when push comes to shove you need people who help you with operations. There’s a high demand for diesel generator mechanics in Puntland, but only a few Bangladeshis and locals know how to fix them . Everyone brings their equipment to shops who have one or two foreign mechanics. Although the businesses are owned by Somalis; I have zero respect for these Nuus-Preneaurs.

The landhere mentality and looking down on sweating in Puntland needs to change. If you need a building constructed quickly and safetly with steal beams from China, you have to import the workers because nobody locally knows who to work with steel. It’s a cudur where the elder business men don’t want to teach the youth skills because they are affraid they will start their own business and compete with them.

Try importing 500 steel beams into Somalia. You won’t find a single Somali that is willing to do Ironwork.

I legit think this is one of the reason post shabab gedo/jubbaland will become the most wealthy part of Somalia.

The "jeerer" and other .5 tribes don't have the luxury and are exptional hard workers and as such will build jubba. Ironic that the very thing most somalis make fun will be the regions strength.

Jubba is cursed with too many different subclans who don't want work together but would rather have a terrorist keep things calm.

I grew up in Kismaayo and I miss it dearly. I was the first place I learned to swim, I can still taste the salt in my mouth from the ocean.

When Somalis have free mobility rights to live and invest anywhere they please, Somalia will succeed.
