The East Africa Community wanted to have a free movement of people. Tanzania opposed it because they know the tourists that visit Tanzania usually enter it through Kenya. If there was free movement, they'd miss out a lot of money on visas while Kenya would still be eating from visa fees. :eating:

Plus Tanzania is bordered by several land locked countries like Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and Zambia. Only land locked countries benefit from free movement.

What do you mean "break somalias back".Somalia is gone, it has been gone for some time. The current Somalia is a group of balkanised states paying lipservice to the UN ambassador in Mogadishu.

This is not a free movement of people btw. It's comparable to WTO and wants to remove tariffs on goods

The south will become another Burundi in due time :damedamn:

If it ever comes to that, Puntland will need to secede from that sinking ship. :wowsweat:

Well, if i have to rephrase it. Any hope of turning things around will be permanently lost.

So what's the "free movement of persons" about?

That's their eventual goal: total integration of Africa with free movement of people and a single currency. But the draft agreement only talks about removing tariffs on goods from African countries. This is only good for exporting countries and countries that actually manufacture goods. I guess Rwanda want to industrialize its economy. So does Ethiopia.

We are a small fish and our signature is a formality and we don't even import from other African countries except for Khat. Those two countries are eyeing the bigger nations.

The long term ramifications remains to be seen. Still, i don't see the benefit in entering this agreement at this point in time.
