I want to start gatekeeping. The same french Africans wanting to wear our cultural clothes hate on us so much

They’ll start claiming our clothes as theirs next. What is this?

As for francophone nighas hating on us lol, they saw 1-2 incel trolls say some vile anti-blk shit and thought it was ok to attack somali ppl. The funny thing is they are some of the most antiblk communities in the world! As in, this is not even a weird socialmedia phenomenon like w somalis, these man are genuinely racist

they think they can atone for their racism by attacking us 😂

I thought that at first and I made a similar comment saying if they’re going to wear our clothes, we should be the one selling it to them but we have been for years. Baatis are worn all over east Africa because of us. And do they credit our culture today or do they wear our clothes and pretend that it’s apart of their culture? Kenyans were wearing Diracs and claiming it as “East African culture” recently. We need to stop allowing these people into our spaces.

Moroccans noticed the kaftan was becoming popular and started harassing others that wore their clothes especially without proper credit. We need to do the same, I don’t care how harsh we come across. Why do we have to share our cultural clothes when they play in our faces? Ethiopians and Eritreans don’t share their cultural garments with the rest of Africa. Why should we?

If a non Somali is not attending a Somali wedding or event, they shouldn’t be wearing Somali cultural clothes. It’s weird. We should make posts about them copying/stealing from us when they do.

lol calling it eastafrican culture when it is not worn by anybody but somalis is silly lol even now when they sell it in the swahili coast they call it ’kisomali’. This is equivalent to calling it danish culture because somali people live there and some random danish girl wore it to a somali wedding once. It’s silly.

I think the difference between us and other ehtnic groups we border or live with is that they don’t have a well defined and outlined culture.. as in everything is fluid. I don’t even think most ethnic groups in kenya or ethiopia have cultural garb or bridalwear that is specific to them. They just wear whatever the neighbour wears and claim it as their own. Whereas with somalis we know exactly what is specific to us and what we adopted and ’made’ our own and when we’re partaking in a clothingtrend (even if that lasts years) we’ll never claim it as apart of our culture like saudi garb or moroccan thoub.
