Galmudug’s Farms and Progress towards self sufficiency

Galmudug markets rarely ever import food from hiiran and both Shabelle regions anymore. Local farms in Galmudug for the past few years with the support of Galmudug’s ministry of agriculture and projects sponsored by donors/World bank, etc, managed to grow all sorts of crop ranging from onions, tomatoes, potatoes, mangoes, bananas, papayas, cucumbers, oranges, lemons, bell peppers and all kinds of crop to meet local demands.

Don't believe me? I’ll let one of the merchants in Dhusamareb’s market explain where she gets her fruits and vegetables.

Kobciye is one of the projects launched last year to support Galmudug farmers with training, equipment, seeds and enough water to cultivate their crop. The first phase started in Hobyo and Cabudwaaq and the project will continue for more than 2 years.
The foundation for experimental farm to test out what kind of crops can grow in Galmudug and to also provide training for farmers in Galmudug was laid down last year and it will open some time this year. It’s the second experiment + training farm in Galmudug

What did Galmudug’s ministry of agriculture implement for the past 3 years under president QQ? https://fb.watch/kroHhkizI_/?mibextid=cr9u03
1: The construction of the headquarters of the ministry in Dhusamareb and the construction of the 2nd headquarters of the ministry in Galkacyo.

2: Implementation of training and experimental fields in Guricel and Adado.

3: Eradication, control and prevention of locusts.

4: Stand by the farmer's pasture made by locusts.

5: Improving the knowledge of Galmudug farmers

6: Improving the quality of agricultural products in Galmudug.

I’ll add more later or at a later date.

It's good to see more regions across Somalia investing in agriculture. 3:01 what the speaker said about Yemen I've heard repeated often.
We have no excuses really.

Mashallah, dalka hormad wayn baa ka socoto
Alhamdulilah. QQ wasn’t lying when he said “reer Galmudug welded their spears/weapons into farming hoes”🤣

These blue marks on the map below are all farms in Guriceel, except for 2 haffir dams and 2 bali/ponds. There’s even more farms but I only marked the obvious ones that show signs of cultivation. The satellite imagery is also outdated by at least 1 year and the fact it’s from during one of the worst droughts in the country doesn’t help.

Galmudug has a lot of Agricultural potential with that abundant red soil. More people there need to stop fighting and get to farming.
Red soil contains a high percentage of iron content, which is responsible for its color. This soil is deficient in nitrogen, humus, phosphoric acid, magnesium, and lime but fairly rich in potash, with its pH ranging from neutral to acidic. It is formed by the weathering of ancient crystalline and metamorphic rocks, particularly acid granites and gneisses, quartzitic rocks, and felspathic rocks. Chemically, red soil is siliceous and aluminous, with free quartz as sand, but is rich in potassium, ranging from sand to clay with the majority being loamy. The lowermost area of red soil is dark in color and very fertile, while the upper layer is sandy and porous. Thus, proper use of fertilizers and irrigation yields high production of cotton, wheat, rice, pulses, millets, tobacco, oil seeds, potatoes, and fruits

This is what I like to see. Don’t forget that the industry sources say the Galmudug has Uranium deposits that exceed a quarter of the world's known reserves of 800,000 tons. Moreover, they said, the uranium lies close to the surface and can permit strip-mining techniques which is far less costly than deep-mining.

In addition to uranium, international geologists have also discovered Yttrium, a rare and costly mineral which experts say can sell for six times as much as uranium per pound.

The GalMudug Regions of Central Somalia is endowed with another mineral deposit, uranium deposits. Following numerous mineral explorations, the area between between Dhusa-mareeb, El-bur, Wasil and Galkayo was found to contain extensive deposits of Uranium in the Taleh Formation that covers Galgaduud and South Mudug Regions. In the Miocene and the Pliocene (the Tertiary), the Taleh Formation had undergone extensive weathering in which secondary mineralization occurred. In this way Uranium minerals were formed in shallow deposits of calcretes and silcrete.
