MOGADISHU (HOL) - Galmudug government has announced a joint offensive with the national army against the militant group Al-Shabaab which has conducted several attacks in the region.
Galmudug state security minister Ahmed Fiqi told journalists Monday forces from the state and the federal government had been mobilized in readiness for the offensive.
The state minister was speaking in Ba'ad-weyne which has witnessed attacks in recent weeks.
The minister had visited the 21st Division of the Somali National Army (SNA) in Ba'ad-weyne and Imamad location.
Al-Shabaab has conducted attacks in parts of Galmudug in recent weeks.
At least 16 people including senior military officials were killed last month when a suicide bomber struck a stadium in Galmudug ahead of Prime Minister Mohamed Roble’s arrival.
